Bridge Design
I-70 Viaduct Replacement, Phase I through IV
Location: Denver, CO
Three-quarter mile long elevated highway structure. Staff members provided structural engineering services for the superstructure design. The structure consists of spliced, precast, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete I-girders with integrally post-tensioned cross-beams substructure over 46th Avenue, and three intermediate post-tensioned structures with variable depth precast firder segments over the piers and rop in segments over BNSF Railroad and Washington Street. Our staff members also provided the design for a post-tensioned, cast-in-place, prestressed concrete I-girder bridge over the South Platte River, and a temporary steel bridge used as a n off-ramp over the South Platte River.
46th Street Ave. Underpass
Location: Denver, CO
One of our staff members provided structural engineer services. He performed preliminary and final design of an arched post-tensioned slab pedestrian underpass between the Denver Coliseum and the National Western Stock Show.
Broadway Viaduct Replacement
Location: Denver, CO
One of our staff members provided structural engineering services. He performed preliminary and final design of a marquee pedestrian structure at the parking entrance to Coors Field Baseball Park. The bridge is a steel “Pratt” truss bridge with unique portal that matched the architecture of the baseball park. Also designed a precast concrete box-girder bridge, and performed preliminary design of a reinforced concrete pump station and box culvert for storm drainage.
Woodmen Road Interchange
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
One of our staff members provided structural engineering services, he was responsible for the design of a contoured steel slant-leg plate girder bridge over Pine Creek, and a post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete structure over Woodmen Road and a prestressed bulb-t girder over Cottonwood Creek.
I-315 and 14th Street Interchange
Location: Great Falls, Montana
One of our staff members provided structural engineering services. Services included design of a prestressed concrete I-girder superstructure and reinforced concrete substructure design for east and westbound widening over 14th Avenue, and design of several retaining walls for the project.
4th Street Bridge Replacement
Location: Dolores, CO
One of our staff members provided structural engineering services; he provided the design of the precast, prestressed I-girder bridge over the Dolores River.
10th Street Bridge Replacement
Location: Dolores, CO
One of our staff members provided structural engineering services; he provided the design of a precast, prestressed I-girder bridge over the White River.
I-15, 600 South Viaduct
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
One of our staff members provided structural engineering service. Design services included seismic analysis for an extreme seismic event.
San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project
Location: San Mateo, California
The San Mateo orthotropic steel bridge spans were built in 1967. The high-rise portion of the bridge carries 3 lanes in each direction with no shoulder. The structure was to be strengthened to withstand a Maximum Credible Earthquake.
One of our staff members developed the solution to retrofit the foundations consisting of series of precast post-tensioned foundation frames that encase existing foundations reducing drifts and taking uplift loads when foundation-rocking motions compromise the stability of the structures.
The project was awarded the 1999 PCI Design Award as the best Rehabilitated Bridge Division and PCI Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award for the advancement of the precast industry’s state of the art.
